Group C: Hosts crush Haiti in last preliminary round match

Dominican Republic vs Haiti 57:16 (27:11)

In the final match of the day, hosts Dominican Republic outclassed Haiti 57:16. After their 55:8 win on Monday, the hosts – just like Haiti thanks to their win over Saint Kitts and Nevis – had their quarter-final spot already booked but this was no reason for them to slow down.

It was Haiti’s Jean Larmy who scored the 1:0, the first goal of the match. It should remain the only lead for the team as the hosts soon not only levelled the game but pulled away quickly, as a five-goal advantage in the seventh minute shows (6:1). At the half-time buzzer, the scoreboard read 27:11.

In the second half, Pabellon de Balonmano saw another 30 minutes of Dominican Republic dominating the match, without any intention to stop their scoring streak. In the end, they had created a 41-goal lead to win 57:16 and celebrated advancing to the knock-out phase.

The hosts meet Canada in their quarter-final tomorrow, while Haiti face Puerto Rico, winners of group A.

No less than three Dominican Republic players – Jorge Luis Manzanillo Pardono, Daniel Rodriguez Aurla and Luis Angel Tejeda – top-scored with nine goals each.
