Group C: Hosts open championship campaign with decisive win

St Kitts and Nevis vs Dominican Republic 8:55 (4:27)

In the fourth and final match of the day, hosts Dominican Republic had the chance to show off their skills as they faced Saint Kitts and Nevis in Santo Domingo. After the opening ceremony of the championship, the hosts put on an impressive show, taking a commanding 55:8 win.

Dominican Republic used the lack of experience of their opponents, made use of their mistakes and dominated the game from the start. Similar to the winning teams in the matches before, they started off with a 13:0 run and kept the number of goals from Saint Kitts and Nevis in general to a minimum, resulting in a 23-goal half-time lead for the hosts, 27:4.

In the second half, the picture was almost exactly the same and a 28:4 result in this period led to the overall win of 55:8 for the hosts.

“We have played hard and we have seen the results. We hope to continue like this to continue advancing in each game until we reach the final,” said Pablo Jacobo, coach of the Dominican Republic team. “We play as a team and that's the concept we should have, there are seven of us on the pitch and that's why we shouldn't be individualists, they applied that and that's why we got the victory.”

With eight goals each, Jorge Duvan Soto Bodrozo, Jorge Luis Manzanillo Pardono, Samuel Santana topped the scorers list of the match.

Attending the match in the arena was also Annery Vargas Valdez, 2004 and 2012 Olympian and player of the national volleyball team, who came to support Dominican Republic against Saint Kitts.
