Group A: Canada outclass Dominica in opener of 1st IHF Men’s NAC Emerging Nations Championship

Dominica vs Canada 15:48 (8:26)

In the opening match of the 1st IHF Men’s NAC Emerging Nations Championship, Canada claimed a decisive 15:48 win against Dominica in the Pabellon de Balonmano in Santo Domingo.

From the beginning on, favourites Canada did not leave the island nation any chance and continuously built up their lead, resulting in an impressive 18-goal advantage at half-time.

Before the tournament, the team from the North stated they want to give the “the best effort [they] can” in order to reach the best possible rank – and this was certainly obvious in this match. The second half no different from the first and the Canadians steamrolled Dominica, without any intention to slow down. At the final buzzer, the scoreboard showed a 33-goal lead and a final score of 15:48.

Jesper Holmris Hansen, coach of the Canadian team, was very satisfied with the performance of his players. “We will seek to fight for the first places against Cuba, the United States and the Dominican Republic,” Hansen said after the match, considering these three countries the biggest rivals for the top podium spot.

Top scorer of the match was Canada’s Dereck Dupere with eight goals out of nine attempts.
