In October 2016, St. Kitts and Nevis made their inaugural appearance at the IHF Trophy Caribbean Zone in Guadeloupe. They made history as they went through to the semi-finals – in which they lost to the hosts – after a draw against Dominica, a win over Trinidad and Tobago and a loss versus Martinique in the preliminary round.

After that experience, they also aim to go through to the second phase in Santo Domingo, at the NAC Emerging Nations Championship. “That would be great for us and our development,” believes team manager Fitzroy Clarke, who coached them in Guadeloupe.

“I think we do better on fast breaks because we are a new nation who are just learning the sport,” highlights Clarke. “Our best bet is to have a running game.”
For the manager, “the team’s preparation is not as strong as we’d like [since they were not able to play any friendly matches], but we have been progressing and developing nicely.”
